Before I got pregnant, I had been working on training for a 5k with the Couch to 5k program. Well, I made it all the way up to the last week, and I did all of it except for the very last run. We went out of town, and when we got back I took a pregnancy test that immediately turned positive. That’s when exhaustion set in, and every since, I’ve been coming home from work at 8:30, having dinner and going right to bed. During those first few weeks, I kept up with pilates, walking or biking but it’s been so darned hot outside! It has been in the 90’s and so humid for a few weeks now and I am not seeing any relief in sight. Thankfully, I haven’t turned into a whale yet, and I have actually lost about 4 lbs since I got pregnant, due do not having as much of an appetite.
I had wanted to run the Ele’s Race 5k in Okemos, MI since I started the C25K program, but I can see now that it won’t be happening. The race is tomorrow morning, and I haven’t ran in a month. My headaches are still feeling out of control and I woke up this morning throwing up again. There is no telling how I will be feeling tomorrow morning, and the chances of feeling great enough to run a 5k are pretty slim. I’m disappointed, but I am still going to aim for running a 5k this fall. I’m hoping that the second trimester will bring me lots of relief and I will be feeling good enough to pick back up on running. My running shoes have been missing me!
First, a quick update. I felt great when I posted yesterday, but after I got to work, my headache creeped back, until I felt awful again. I knew the T3 would knock me out, so I left work at 7:30 and took it as soon as I got home. I went right to bed at 8, and watched a little tv with Joe. Around 11:30 (I think?) Joe woke me up with 2 bowls of chicken noodle soup. What a guy! It helped quite a bit, and I fell right back to sleep. I woke up this morning feeling pretty good, and so far, so good. Today is my Friday, so I only have to get through one more day of work!
Now onto the excitement!
First, the backstory. Last fall, we took in a stray cat and named her Paisley. She was very small and so sweet, and never left our house until about 2 and a half months ago. I was painting the front door, and thought she was in the basement but the next day, we couldn’t find her anywhere. We kept looking, calling for her, placing food outside, but she never came back. We honestly assumed she was dead!
While we were in Chicago, Joe’s brother called us and asked when our cat came back. We said she hadn’t, and he said he had just let her inside. We didn’t believe him, but when he sent photo proof, it was definitely Paisley! When we got home, we realized that she is VERY pregnant! We are pretty sure she is going to give birth any time now. We are setting her up in the spare bedroom with a box and lots of towels, food, water and litter. I’ve never had an animal give birth before, so it’s pretty neat. I’ve already found a friend at work that is willing to take all of the kittens to have on their farm once they are old enough, so we aren’t too worried about finding homes for them. It’s pretty cool to feel Paisley’s belly, because the kittens are moving all over inside there. She has been laying around all day, getting lots of sleep so I wouldn’t be suprised if the kittens are born some time tonight.
Anyways, that’s our excitement for now and I’ll keep the blog updated with kitten news as it comes!
I mentioned yesterday that I had been having really bad headaches. I have a history of migraines, and used to take Imitrex or Treximet and they almost always went away. Of course now I am down to only Tylenol, and it wasn’t even touching my headaches.
It started over the weekend of 4th of July. I woke up Saturday morning with a really bad headache, which got progressivly worse. I drove into work, and barely made it there before I threw up. Now, I hadn’t had any morning sickness, and I knew it was from the headache. I went back to my parent’s cabin where I slept all day long. Sunday was pretty much a repeat…awful headache all day, it sort of went away for a few hours but came back worse. I’ve had this awful headache since then. It might be nearly gone for a day, but it always comes back. Yesterday was the worst of it- I couldn’t do a single thing. I had gone to my mom’s house to drop some things off, and barely made it home. I was throwing up in our driveway, and then went straight to bed again. I called the nurse at my doctor’s office, and she wanted me to come in right away.
Last night, my head felt like it was literally going to explode, and I couldn’t find any relief. I was in tears, and finally fell asleep around midnight. I woke up this morning, got ready to go to the doctor’s office and then I started throwing up, and there was blood in it. I had planned on driving myself, but I knew there was no way I could even do it so Joe took me in to see the doctor. It was a super quick visit, and she prescribed me Tylenol with Coedine for my headaches and Zofran for my nauseau. Joe and I had a little breakfast while we waited for my scripts to be filled, and I took them in the car on the way home. I immediatly fell asleep in the car, and when we got home I rolled right into bed.
I got an hour and a half of sleep, and woke up feeling like a new person! Thank goodness! I can’t imagine going through even the rest of my first trimester feeling that way. I’m going to try taking the meds as little as possible, and hopefully since this migraine cycle is broken, I won’t need much more.
I feel like I can finally get back to my life! Dishes and laundry await…
I’m starting this blog so I can share experiences in my pregnancy, daily life, and eventually life with a baby!
Today, I am 8 weeks and 2 days pregnant, and woke up with a big headache. I know it’s from the tension in my upper back and shoulders and I tried to get a massage appointment stat, but the girl I go to is sick and won’t be available until at least Friday. I can feel the knots in my back getting worse!
Over the weekend, Joe and I went to the Chicago area with my mom for a wedding. It was the perfect weather! On Saturday, we took the commuter train into Chicago and spent the afternoon at Navy Pier. Most of that days highlights come from the train rides, both ways.
-2 big guys starting a fight on the train in the seat in front of us, and following some poor guy into another car
-Pouring rain at Navy Pier for about 10 minutes
-The conductor throwing some guys off the train for talking loudly on the way back
-This guy knocking on the bathroom door for 10 minutes, the guy inside yells loudly “I’ll be out soon!” and “I’m trying to poop!”
-Then the guy waiting sits down and throws up all of the floor, and later himself many times
-Drunk old man stumbling onto our car drunk, starts retching and barely makes it to the toilet before throwing up
Luckily, my stomach was feeling alright or I would have been throwing up right along with them!
We left on Sunday afternoon and stopped at the Woodfield Mall for some shopping. I ended up with Lush goodies, and then we stopped at Firekeepers Casino in Battle Creek, MI to check it out. We each played $1 in the penny slots… big spenders I know!
Here’s our pic from the photo booth they had set up at the wedding- it was so much fun!
